Black Bottom Oatmeal Pie

We usually have Mr. B over for dinner once a week.  He doesn’t cook and without meals from the family I think he gets a little hungry. Danny’s Mom always made a cake once a week so Mr. B is understandably use to having dessert with dinner (ice cream and coffee also).  For awhile I tried to make homemade desserts but lately I’ve been dependent on boxed cake or something pre-made.  Since I’m on a role for doing what I want right now, I’m going back to making desserts.

I made this Black Bottom Oatmeal Pie last night and it’s fantastic.  It’s similar in taste to a Pecan Pie but is nut free and has a delectable chocolate layer.  I’ll admit this wasn’t the quickest pie to make – it took about an hour to cook and a few hours to chill – but was worth it.  My crust definitely isn’t that fancy but it was simple to make (I used the recommended recipe) and it’s more golden yellow than golden brown.  Asthetics aside it taste delicious and I’m going to make it again.
