My hands-down no competition favorite coffee in life is the Pure Evil Latte from the Urban Bean Co. Why haven’t I posted about it sooner? Plain and simple, I’m intimidated. This hipster joint is way too cool for me and I can’t bring myself to ask for an interview or take pictures inside. I did post to Instagram awhile ago but the barista’s head was turned.
Shameful I know but it’s honest. The Urban Bean Co. is located in Capitol Park, a block away from Campus Martius and the Woodward strip. Formerly the bus station hub, it was upgraded to a cement park a few years ago. Currently, it’s undergoing a massive renovation and virtually every building touching the pie shaped park is being converted into apartments with ground floor retail/art galleries. The Gilbert dream is an artist enclave and with the recent addition of the Detroit Institute of Music Education, it’s only a matter of time before the Urban Bean Co. reaches a new level of cool.
In the meantime, I make a point to grab a coffee whenever I’m around town. I also meet interviewees there even though it really is not the most conducive location for personal chats – techno music plays at loud volumes and there is often a live DJ upstairs. Regardless of all of the above, it’s still one of my favorite locations in the city and if you like coffee you simply have to try it.
Thanks for the tip, Carrie. I'll put it on my ever-growing list, for the next time I'm in Detroit. I love that area too. And I know exactly what you mean about a place being too cool for you!

Capitol Park is an interesting place these days, I imagine it will look very different by the end of the summer.
