Mother Teresa becomes a saint this weekend. It’s crazy to think I lived on the planet at the same time as a saint. Inspired, I decided to read Mother Teresa – Her Essential Wisdom. I’m ashamed it took me this long, it was a gift from Danny’s parents when I was confirmed years ago. I found a thank you note I started but never finished or -obviously – sent.
I think about Danny’s mom often. I wish Lucas could have known her and want to make sure he knows of her. She was a saint in the family and we keep her picture on the mantel next to my favorite saying. B lost her iPod this week and shared with her the best lesson Mrs. B taught me – ask Tony a.k.a. St. Anthony. It’s a tip that never fails and B found her iPod within an hour.
Mother Teresa epitomizes the Catholic faith for me. Doing good work because it is right, not because it is easy. Acting without seeking recognition. Practicing the message of God and leading by example.
It is my hope that those of us left on this planet listen to her message of love without judgement and learn to treat others as we want to truly want to be treated.
I feel that we too often focus on the negative aspects of live, on what is bad. If we were more willing to see the good and the beautiful things that surround us, we would be able to transform our families. From there, we would change our next-door neighbors and then others who live in our neighborhood or city. We would be able to bring peace and love to our world, which hungers so much for these things. – Saint Teresa of Calcutta
