The Dally in the Alley is an annual Cass Corridor festival in Midtown. I meant to check it out long before this year but for one reason or another it didn’t work out. Well we finally made it and had a good time. It was a cloudy day with suggestion of storms but they held off. Since it was a big college football Saturday for us (with big wins for the Irish and MSU), we didn’t stay long but it was well worth the trip to the city.
The Wayne State portion of Midtown isn’t one I travel often and it was fun to explore. There is far more (old) housing than I thought and the alleys were really cool. My prior alley experience was limited to the commercial strip in lower Midtown and seeing the residential portion with community backyards was a fun treat. I definitely discovered a side of life in Detroit, I didn’t realize was there.
We went early in the day and there was a great crowd, I can’t imagine what it was like in the evening. Food tents, artisan stands and concert stages filled the four block area. There were a fair number of children but I’m not sure we’d make it a family outing. The crowd was friendly but the music is loud and there is an aroma in the air…
Nevertheless, it was a fun event and I’m sure we’ll go back. Below are a few pics from the day.
An unexpected glam shot – thanks Wordbird.
