40 Of Our Favorite Children’s Books

Ad

We’re plugging along on Lucas’ 1000 (different) books before kindergarten challenge. He went through a long phase where he only wanted to read the same books so we were at a standstill until this summer. Now we’re at nearly 300 and we’ve read some good ones. I’ve shared our entire reading list before (here and here) but going forward I’ll only share our favorites (when you are trying to read this many books some are duds).

  1. Night Night Groot by Brendan Deneen
  2. Mother Bruce by Ryan Higgins
  3. Tren de Carga by Donald Crews – Lucas is not yet a fan of foreign language but he has memorized a few Spanish words thanks to this book
  4. I Wish You More by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
  5. Kisses and Cuddles
  6. The Itsy Bitsy Duckling by Jeffrey Burton
  7. Oh My, Oh My, Dinosaurs by Saundra Boynton
  8. Spooky Pookie by Sandra Boynton
  9. Let’s Dance Little Pookie by Sandra Boynton – Before Lucas was even 1 he would quote this book when it was time to put his shoes on
  10. Night-Night Little Pookie by Sandra Boynton
  11. How to Cheer Up Dad by Fred Koehler
  12. Little Hoot by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
  13. Little Oink by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
  14. The Museum by Susan Verde
  15. Young Frank Architect by Frank Viva
  16. The Shape of My Heart by Mark Sperring
  17. The Sunflower Sword by Mark Sperring
  18. Dinosoaring by Deb Lund
  19. Ninja by Arree Chung – Lucas has a love/hate relationship with ninjas so this book is popular.
  20. Rex Wrecks It! By Ben Clanton
  21. Hotel Bruce by Ryan T. Higgins
  22. There’s a Monster Your Book by Tom Fletcher – this book is so adorable and interactive
  23. The Fix It Man by Susan Hood
  24. Neither by Airlie Anderson
  25. The Boss Baby by Marla Frazee
  26. The Bossier Baby by Marla Frazee
  27. Thank you Octopus by Darren Farrell – Lucas has really distinct interest in illustrations that are not my style but I love that he has his own taste

  29. Baby Penguins Love their Mama by Melissa Guion
  30. Catch That Cookie by Hallie Durand
  31. Diana’s White House Garden by Elisa Carbone
  32. Chicks Run Wild by Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen
  33. President Taft is Stuck in the Bath by Mac Barnett – He loves to say Mr. Secretarity which reminds me of the horse and Hamilton (Mr. Secretary, Senator Burr Sir).
  34. The Very Cranky Bear by Nick Bland
  35. Old MacDonald Had a Truck by Steve Goetz
  36. Colors versus Shapes by Mike Boldt
  37. Vincent Paints His House by Tedd Arnold – The pattern of this writing made it easy for Lucas to memorize so he wanted to read it again and again and again.
  38. Monster Day at Work by Sarah Dyer
  39. The Koala Who Could by Rachel Bright
  40. I’ll Wait Mr. Panda by Steve Antony – He memorized this book so he could read it to himself and I love it.

Recommendations welcome!
