We’re plugging along on Lucas’ 1000 (different) books before kindergarten challenge. He went through a long phase where he only wanted to read the same books so we were at a standstill until this summer. Now we’re at nearly 300 and we’ve read some good ones. I’ve shared our entire reading list before (here and here) but going forward I’ll only share our favorites (when you are trying to read this many books some are duds).
- Night Night Groot by Brendan Deneen
- Mother Bruce by Ryan Higgins
- Tren de Carga by Donald Crews – Lucas is not yet a fan of foreign language but he has memorized a few Spanish words thanks to this book
- I Wish You More by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
- Kisses and Cuddles
- The Itsy Bitsy Duckling by Jeffrey Burton
- Oh My, Oh My, Dinosaurs by Saundra Boynton
- Spooky Pookie by Sandra Boynton
- Let’s Dance Little Pookie by Sandra Boynton – Before Lucas was even 1 he would quote this book when it was time to put his shoes on
- Night-Night Little Pookie by Sandra Boynton
- How to Cheer Up Dad by Fred Koehler
- Little Hoot by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
- Little Oink by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
- The Museum by Susan Verde
- Young Frank Architect by Frank Viva
- The Shape of My Heart by Mark Sperring
- The Sunflower Sword by Mark Sperring
- Dinosoaring by Deb Lund
- Ninja by Arree Chung – Lucas has a love/hate relationship with ninjas so this book is popular.
- Rex Wrecks It! By Ben Clanton
- Hotel Bruce by Ryan T. Higgins
- There’s a Monster Your Book by Tom Fletcher – this book is so adorable and interactive
- The Fix It Man by Susan Hood
- Neither by Airlie Anderson
- The Boss Baby by Marla Frazee
- The Bossier Baby by Marla Frazee
- Thank you Octopus by Darren Farrell – Lucas has really distinct interest in illustrations that are not my style but I love that he has his own taste
- Give Me Back My Book by Travis Foster and Ethan Long
- Baby Penguins Love their Mama by Melissa Guion
- Catch That Cookie by Hallie Durand
- Diana’s White House Garden by Elisa Carbone
- Chicks Run Wild by Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen
- President Taft is Stuck in the Bath by Mac Barnett – He loves to say Mr. Secretarity which reminds me of the horse and Hamilton (Mr. Secretary, Senator Burr Sir).
- The Very Cranky Bear by Nick Bland
- Old MacDonald Had a Truck by Steve Goetz
- Colors versus Shapes by Mike Boldt
- Vincent Paints His House by Tedd Arnold – The pattern of this writing made it easy for Lucas to memorize so he wanted to read it again and again and again.
- Monster Day at Work by Sarah Dyer
- The Koala Who Could by Rachel Bright
- I’ll Wait Mr. Panda by Steve Antony – He memorized this book so he could read it to himself and I love it.
Recommendations welcome!
