I had twenty people over for Father’s Day brunch this weekend. I love having space to entertain and things went really well. I decided to try my hand at a cake again for the occasion. Normally such feats don’t end well so I don’t know why I decided to brave a rather complicated recipe. Nevertheless, I did and it turned out great. Smitten Kitchen’s Bee Sting Cake isn’t easy but it’s very doable. I made the custard and dough the night before so I wasn’t overwhelmed in the morning. I also doubled the custard recipe so there was plenty to enjoy. I was truly amazed at how well the cake turned out and extra pleased that it tasted as good as it looked. It’s definitely something I’ll be keeping in my arsenal for repeat use.
