April Meals

It’s warming up around here but it’s still chilly enough to enjoy some hearty meals. I tried to select balanced recipes that limited our carb and cheese/cream intake because we’ve definitely over indulged in those areas.  The pizza rolls, Asian tacos and Mexican casserole are tried and true winners but the other recipes are new.  I’ve made stuffed shells … More April Meals

Easter Sunday

Our holidays are usually busy because we always see both of our families.  This year it was extra busy because I hosted an Easter Breakfast!  It was incredibly last minute but I’m very happy with the results.  I’m still learning to be a hostess but I feel like I’m improving.  I didn’t go overboard and … More Easter Sunday

A Good Friday

We held out to the very end of the month before going on our date night.  In order to go somewhere nice we decided to do a date lunch.  Danny selected the restaurant and the Detroit Seafood Market in Paradise Valley downtown was the winner.  Neither of us had been before and didn’t know what … More A Good Friday

Cookie Gala

I was never a Girl Scout as a kid.  My sister did it for a year but it never really appealed to us.  Nevertheless, like most people in this country we certainly enjoyed the cookies – no box of Samoas was safe around me.  Surprisingly, as I’ve gotten older I find that I don’t actually like cookies … More Cookie Gala

Looking Forward

I’ve been in a funk for awhile now but I think it’s finally passing.  I’ve been reading old blog posts and I can’t believe how far I let myself get from what I want.  It wasn’t earth shattering but it has been significant.   Fitness: I’m back at square one but I’m also back on … More Looking Forward

One for the Irish

To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day I tried my hand at corned beef.  I’d never eaten it before (let alone made one) and was really nervous because – true to form – I was trying out this new recipe for company. Julia, Jim and their boys came over for dinner (and Mom joined us too).  Although, … More One for the Irish

Cocktail Party

I hosted my first cocktail party at the new place this weekend and I think it went really well!  I had a lot of fun and I think our guests enjoyed themselves also.  Planning a party for 11 kids is A LOT easier than having one for 11 other adults.  Some lessons I learned from … More Cocktail Party

Valentine Dinner

Yesterday I came home to a beautiful, delicious and romantic dinner.  Danny was in a tizzy trying to put everything together.  He’s a perfectionist and the pressure of putting together a meal probably raised his bp to unhealthy levels. The meal was absolutely perfect.  The first course was scallops on a pea/mint puree.  It was … More Valentine Dinner

Mexican Fiesta

Since we’re having all the kids over Saturday as a treat for Danny’s sibling  I wanted to do something with Ann and Matt.  I invited them over to dinner Sunday but she wasn’t sure her schedule would allow for a dinner date, thankfully it did.  My favorite chicken enchilada casserole was already on the menu but … More Mexican Fiesta
